German is spoken in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. English will be enough to travel in these countries, but Locals will be impressed, when you speak their language. German is similar to English because they are related.
There are a lot of accents, especially Swiss German, which is almost a separate language with a lot of different dialects. But everything written will be "High German" (normal German), like in Germany or Austria. Austrian German which is not very different to High German, but has its own vibe and is more similar to High German than Swiss German.
